How to  make Bacon Roses

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 x pack Thick cut  bacon

  • 1 x bunch fake  roses

  • toothpicks

  • Vase

  • Parchment paper

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take the bacon out of the package and let come to room temperature (about 10 minutes)

  2. Preheat oven to 375f

  3. Take a cookie tray lined with foil or parchment paper and place a rack on top.

  4. Start by removing the buds and petals so you have bare, empty stems with leaves.

  5. If your your stems have “cap tips” snip the ends so you have a point.

  6. Set them aside

  7. Take a strip of the bacon, and starting at one end, roll it tightly (you will “spread” the upper edges after the next step so keep these tightly rolled).

  8. Secure the roll by inserting two toothpicks at the bottom in a criss-cross pattern of each ones. (You can do this up to several days in advance)

  9. Gently open the top of each to make them spread like a budding flower. Place each rose on the wire rack. Repeat with all the bacon. Make extras even if you dont have enough stems—its worth it.

  10. Place tray of your bacon buds into the oven, and bake 45-55 minutes.

  11. You want them well cooked with a rich caramel color but not crisp.

  12. Remove from oven and using tongue loosen each bud from the rack and allow to sit for 10 min then gently remove the toothpicks .

  13. Once cool enough to handle, take each bud and slide it on to the tip of the stem.

For a little xtra; before baking, drizzle with maple syrup or sprinkle with brown sugar — but you will have to remove the toothpick sooner whole warm so the sugar doesn’t harden around them.

A few side notes:

  • For the best results, look for fake  roses that have a pronounced green part that cradles the rose, because this will hold the  bacon in place a little better.

  • You can use green floral tape over wooden skewers if you dont have stems.

  • I actually look for stems at thrift stores, washing and dry then a few days prior to making or look for these foil wrapped chocolate roses (on sale after valentines day) https://amzn.to/3DmzF8U eat the chocolate but save the stems!

  • You can tuck into the base extra “greenery” such as lettuce or kale for leaves.

  • Skewer cherry & grape tomatoes and tuck in the arranged vase

  • Serve with a side of spicy mayonnaise, honey- mustard or bbq sauce for dipping
