Basted Egg

A gently steamed egg with set whites and a soft, runny yolk. Perfect for topping avocado toast or adding to breakfast dishes.

Yield: 1 egg
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Special Equipment: Sauté pan with lid

 

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

  • 1 to 2 tsp water

  • Butter or bacon fat

 

Directions

  1. Heat a small skillet over medium low heat and add a little butter or bacon fat.

  2. Crack the egg into the pan and let the whites begin to set.

  3. Add water to the pan away from the egg and immediately cover with a lid.

  4. Steam for about 2 minutes until whites are set and yolk stays runny.

  5. Remove carefully with a spatula and serve.
