Cook Time: 25 minutes
Special Equipment: Large Sauce Pan
Ingredients
- 8 medium tart apples, peeled, cored, and quartered (Granny Smith or Jonathan work well)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup Red Hot cinnamon candies
Directions
- In a large saucepan, combine apples and water. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, until apples are tender but still chunky.
- Use a potato masher to break down apples to your desired consistency—leave some chunks for texture.
- Stir in sugar and Red Hots. Cook uncovered over low heat, stirring frequently, until candies and sugar are fully dissolved and sauce is evenly pink.
- Remove from heat and let cool. Serve warm or refrigerate until chilled.
