Yield: 6 cups
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Special Equipment: Large Sauce Pan

Ingredients

  • 8 medium tart apples, peeled, cored, and quartered (Granny Smith or Jonathan work well)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup Red Hot cinnamon candies

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine apples and water. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, until apples are tender but still chunky.

  2. Use a potato masher to break down apples to your desired consistency—leave some chunks for texture.

  3. Stir in sugar and Red Hots. Cook uncovered over low heat, stirring frequently, until candies and sugar are fully dissolved and sauce is evenly pink.

  4. Remove from heat and let cool. Serve warm or refrigerate until chilled.
