Dessert French Toast

Rich, custardy French toast topped with fresh berries and a warm cinnamon-vanilla sauce—perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs

  • 12 oz evaporated milk, divided

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • 4 tbsp sugar, divided

  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1¼ tsp vanilla extract, divided

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices

  • 2 tsp cornstarch

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 pint fresh berries

Optional: powdered sugar, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream

 

Directions

  1. Mix Custard: Whisk eggs, ½ cup evaporated milk, melted butter, 1 tbsp sugar, cinnamon, ¼ tsp vanilla, and salt.

  2. Soak Bread: Coat bread slices in custard, letting them sit 2 minutes per side.

  3. Cook Toast: Brown soaked bread in a buttered skillet over medium heat, 2 minutes per side.

  4. Make Sauce: In a saucepan, whisk remaining sugar and cornstarch with evaporated milk and cinnamon sticks. Cook until thick. Remove sticks; stir in remaining vanilla.

  5. Serve: Plate toast, top with berries, drizzle with sauce, and add optional toppings.
