Monte Cristo Sandwich

A quick sweet and savory sandwich loaded with ham and Provolone, dipped in seasoned egg, pan fried until golden, and finished with powdered sugar and honey.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp mayonnaise

  • 4 slices wheat bread

  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard

  • 6 slices ham

  • 6 slices Provolone cheese

  • 1 large egg

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ⅛ tsp black pepper

  • 2 Tbsp butter

  • 1 tsp powdered sugar

  • 2 Tbsp honey

 

Directions

  1. bread and Dijon mustard on the remaining 2 slices.

  2. Layer the ham and Provolone onto 2 slices of bread and top with the remaining bread.

  3. Whisk the egg, salt, and black pepper together in a shallow dish.

  4. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium high heat. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.

  5. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  6. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, drizzle with honey, and serve hot.
