Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
2 ½ tsp baking powder
¾ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
3 tbsp freshly chopped chives
1 cup shredded cheese of choice
½ cup frozen butter, grated
⅔ cup buttermilk, very cold (plus 1 tbsp for brushing)
1 large egg, separated
¾ cup finely chopped ham (diced ham pieces)
Directions
Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and chives.
Cut in Butter: Add frozen grated butter and cut into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter until pieces are pea-sized.
Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and buttermilk (reserve 1 tbsp). Pour into dry mixture and stir until crumbly. Fold in ham and cheese.
Form Dough: Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Gently knead until it comes together. Shape into an 8-inch disc.
Cut and Chill: Using a pizza cutter, slice into 8 wedges. Place wedges on prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
