Yield: 2-4 melts
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 8-10 minutes
Special Equipment: Skillet or griddle
Ingredients
Sourdough croissant bread or sourdough slices
Black Forest ham sliced
White American cheese
Gruyere cheese
Softened butter
Dijon mustard 1 tbsp
Honey 1 tsp
Mayo or sour cream 2 tbsp
Black pepper pinch
Lemon juice 1 to 2 drops
Directions
Make the Dijon honey cream by mixing Dijon mustard, honey, mayo or sour cream, black pepper, and lemon juice until smooth, then set aside.
Lightly butter the outside of each slice of bread and spread a thin layer of the Dijon honey cream on the inside.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium and add a small amount of butter. Place one slice of bread butter side down, layer white American cheese, ham, and Gruyere, then top with the second slice butter side up.
Cook until the bottom is golden and the cheese starts melting, flip adding more butter if needed, and cook until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted. Rest 1 minute before slicing.
Tips:
Press lightly with a spatula for even browning.
Serve with tomato soup or a simple salad
