Blanket Dumplings

Tender pork meatballs wrapped in delicate wonton wrappers, then steamed until perfectly cooked. These easy dumplings are packed with savory flavor and make a delicious appetizer or light meal.

Ingredients

  • cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 thumb sized piece fresh ginger, grated

  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced, whites and greens separated

  • ¼ cup shredded cabbage

  • 1 lb ground pork

  • 1 ½ tsp sesame oil

  • 2 tsp soy sauce

  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

  • 1 package wonton wrappers

  • Cooking oil

  • ¼ cup water per batch

    Optional for Serving:

    Chili crisp

    Reserved scallion greens

    Chinese black vinegar

 

Directions

  1. Mix the garlic, ginger, scallion whites, cabbage, ground pork, sesame oil, soy sauce, salt, and pepper until just combined.

  2. Heat a lightly oiled nonstick skillet over medium high heat.

  3. Scoop the pork mixture into meatballs and place them flat side down in the skillet. Drape a wonton wrapper over each meatball, gently pressing it around the sides.

  4. Add 1/4 cup water, cover, and steam for 4 to 6 minutes, or until the wrappers are translucent and the pork reaches 160°F.

  5. Repeat with the remaining pork mixture, adding more oil and water as needed.

    Garnish with scallion greens and serve with chili crisp and Chinese black vinegar, if desired.
