Persian Salad Shirazi

A refreshing and vibrant chopped salad from Iran made with crisp cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, and a hint of lime and mint. Perfect on its own or as a bright side dish to grilled meats or rice-based meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 Persian cucumbers or 1 English cucumber, finely diced

  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely diced

  • ½ red onion or 1 small shallot, finely diced

  • Juice of 1 fresh lime or more to taste

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon dried mint or a handful of fresh mint, finely chopped

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional:

  • 1 teaspoon sumac

  • 1 teaspoon za’atar

  • Drizzle of tahini sauce

  • Drizzle of sesame oil

 

Directions

  1. Dice the cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions small and even for the salad’s signature texture.

  2. In a medium bowl, mix the cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions together.

  3. Add lime juice, mint, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings or sauces you like.

  4. Drizzle with olive oil, tahini, or sesame oil if using.

  5. Toss gently to combine. Chill for 15–30 minutes before serving if possible.
