Ultimate French Dip Sandwich
Crispy toasted bread, tender roast beef, caramelized onions, and melted cheese served with rich au jus for dipping

Ingredients
1 lb thinly sliced roast beef (deli or homemade)
1 large baguette or 4 crusty sandwich rolls
1½ cups shredded Gruyère or provolone cheese
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter, plus more for toasting
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp soy sauce
1 garlic clove, smashed
Optional: splash of red wine or balsamic vinegar
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp prepared horseradish
1 tsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium-low. Add onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for 20–25 minutes until golden. Stir in Worcestershire sauce.
In a saucepan, combine beef broth, Worcestershire, soy sauce, garlic, and wine (if using). Simmer 10–15 minutes. Strain and keep warm.
Split baguette or rolls. Brush with butter and toast under broiler or in skillet until golden.
In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, horseradish, Dijon, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to make aioli.
Spread aioli on toasted bread. Layer roast beef, onions, and cheese. Broil open-faced until cheese melts.
Close sandwiches, slice, and serve warm with au jus for dipping
